Searching for Bio Grandparents
Hello, @Carolyn Webber
First of all I would like to thank you for being here in this oft times difficult process of finding unknown family members. This is a tremendous resource.
My bio father was adopted in 1933 .My fathers adoptive mother was very active in the church. She served a mission and worked in the genealogy research dept. and Relief Society etc. My father was told he was a "family" adoption and if he would do his church work (genealogy) he would know who his bio parents were.
My DNA test was done through Ancestry the results brought me into contact to bio half sisters I didn't know about. Thus enabling me to separate my paternal from maternal line. Through this I have been able to identify two potential family surnames with strong DNA matches to me.
I have spoken with the clerks office of the county where they lived and they have no record of his adoption. I also received a copy of his birth certificate however it was a delayed certificate dating to 1960.
I am wondering since my adoptive grandparents were so active in the church would it be possible to search church records for any record of his adoption and sealing?
Thank you in advance for the kindness of your reply.
Sincerely Diane

Hello @ParkerDiane1 ParkerDiane1 thank you for sharing your story😊 maybe @Carolyn Webber can help you find an answer for this. I saw some LDS member historical records online the other day, but me not being LDS, I’m not exactly sure what you would want to search

Great Suggestion I'll check that out!
Thank you!

Diane,
I would expect that your father would have been sealed to the people that raised him.
You might want to read up on Idaho Open Birth Certificate laws:
https://adopteerightslaw.com/idaho-obc/
You might want to search the suspected surnames in the Idaho birth Index online:
https://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog/1674809 Idaho, births and christenings, 1856-1965
If you are not successful with your search, let's chat more about your DNA and how you can determine the parents that way.

Thank You @Carolyn Webber
Yes, I have researched those avenues. It would be great if we can chat about my DNA matches via email for privacy considerations. I would not want to do that in this forum.
Thanks again,
Diane
