Looking for 18th Century Church of Ireland records in County Tyrone
Hello,
My ancestors Thomas Gibboney (1784? in Co Tyrone, Ireland-d. 1839 in Wytheville, Virginia) and Margaret Kyle (1786-d. in Virginia) married in 1805 (presumably Ireland) and came to America with most of their kids through the Port of New York around 1815. I am looking for any trace of them across the pond, specifically Church of Ireland Records, presumably from Drumnakilly, County Tyrone, Ireland where they hailed. It has been difficult to locate any trace of them in Ireland. The Haller-Gibboney Rock House Museum in Wytheville, Virginia, gave me info on their son Robert E Gibboney (1810-1867), and said he was born in Drumnakilly December 10, 1810. Margaret's father was said to be Sir William Emmett Kyle, someone who was knighted for his services to the British Crown. Maybe there are land records for him in Ireland, specifically County Tyrone. Margaret may have been born in Ireland or Scotland. It is the Gibboney surname which may be intrinsically Irish and not a carryover Scotch-Irish name. Any clue, record or trace of this family in Ireland would be most welcome. They seem to have been gobbled up by the 'black hole' or record vacuum I keep encountering in 18th century Irish Genealogy. No doubt the 1922 PROI Fire contributed to my current dismay! Thanks for any assistance, Brian Paul Kaess

As you seem to be aware, many CofI registers were destroyed in the Four Courts fire. A few survived, and many of those have been filmed and digitized. They are not, unfortunately, available on a single, central, website. The list of registers and their location and status is updated periodically. Church of Ireland Parish Registers
A surviving index of Marriage License Bonds is online on several sites, including FS.
The Virtual Treasury has been making great strides with their restoration of singed and burned bundles of documents. We all hope there is more to come.
