Stein am Rhein SH - marriage - 1831 - Seiz & Schmid - Carl Anton & Catharina
Translation request marriage Carl Anton Seitz, Catharina Schmid 1831 Stein am Rhein Switzerland
Hi. I can't read this marriage record between Carl Anton Seitz PM7M-S3D and Catharina Schmid PM7M-7ZJ in Stein am Rhein, Schaffhausen, Switzerland, in 1831. Please give me a translation and transcription of the record. I have uploaded both the whole page and a closeup of the entry. Thanks in advance.

This record is indeed rather difficult to read - hopefully other people will step in as well: the record may be viewed here with higher resolution.
There are two dates: 25 Sep and 02 Oct 1831 - will most likely be the announcement and (a week later) the actual marriage (see below).
Carl Anton Seiz, Steinhauer zu Rheineck, cathol(?) Bekentnisses, gb. 8 Nov 1804
Catharina Schmid, ab Erlen, gb. 17 Merz 1799
Carl Anton Seiz, born 8 Nov 1804 was a stone cutter in Rheineck, catholic. Catharina Schmid was born 17 Mar 1799 and from Erlen, reformed.
[............]
This is a lengthy text which I interpret as a description of the unusual situation (the first time for this pastor) that a catholic groom got married in his reformed church. The catholic priest from Thal did not attend, but there had been several announcements - and so all necessary papers concerning the marriage were issued. [……..]
Carolus Antonius Seiz was from Rheineck (canton St.Gallen) and had been baptized in Thal - see his baptismal entry (click on viewer, the select page 207, page on the left, fourth entry from the bottom).
Much easier to read is the Bürgerregister Rheineck (click on viewer, select page 68, right page top), where you get his entire family (incl. children and parents). Here 11 Oct is given as date of marriage - the date we also find on the bottom of the entry in Stein am Rhein. Possibly 02 Oct was the second announcement mentioned.

In the meantime I have transcribed the Bürgerregister on Karl Anton Seiz oo 1831 Katharina Schmid.
I would like to invite you to register with the forum (free of charge and without obligation) and tell us which of the children is your ancestor - and who emigrated when.
BTW - is https://www.familysearch.org/de/tree/pedigree/landscape/PM7M-S3D your data? It is wrong - the marriage 1831 took place in Stein am Rhein SH - not Thal SG!

Dear WSeelentag,
Thank you so much for transcribing/translating this for me. I appreciate all the sources you showed me. My father had a professional genealogist prepare a tree for us in about 1961. I am checking his information and making sure the ordinances are done.
Best,
Helen Gubler
