Italian Papal States archives
trying to locate the birth records of my great grandfather Luigi Rosati and great grandmother Lucia Cameli ,who were born in 5 Apr 1842 and 22 Oct 1847. I believe their records were in the Papal States archives from 1860 to 1861. the Papal States existed from 1800 to 1860. Where can I find those archived records? Jim Rosati

The Papal States existed from 756 until 1870 when the last remnants were taken by the new Italian unified kingdom.
In any event, records are in the local churches or diocesan archives and not online, unless the events took place in a comune that had civil registration. Which comuni were these people born in? And how do you know their dates of birth if you don't have their baptismal records?

These are from Antenati and the number 4965 is the page number of the census page which I saw and verified in Ascoli Piceno state archive.

That is all the Antenati file lists.

The state archive of Ascoli Pisceno only holds records for 1808-1815 and 1841-1844 for the comune of Ascoli Piceno: https://sias-archivi.cultura.gov.it/cgi-bin/pagina.pl?TipoPag=comparc&Chiave=518130&RicVM=indice&RicSez=fondi&RicProgetto=as%2dascoli&RicPag=5&RicTipoScheda=ca
They also hold military service records for 1841-1943.
So you could try emailing them (as-ap@cultura.gov.it) for documents concerning Luigi Rosati. For Lucia Cameli, you will need to contact the comune of Ascoli Piceno directly for her birth record. And if they married in Ascoli after 1864, you would also need to contact the comune for their civil marriage record.
For church records, you would first need to know which parish they belonged to (the census may have that, and the civil birth records would have that also).

sadly I tried the Ascoli Piceno state archive in person. I had more information than they dd and even though Luigi and Lucia were married, my grandfather's parents, I can not find any more than what I have.
