Ottenbach ZH - burial - 1849 - Berli - Heinrich

Heinrich Berli died on Friday, December 14, 1849 and was buried on Wednesday, December 19, 1849. His age is given as 68 years 8 months and 2 days. I read the two words after his name as “Dreher Kobis”, which indicates his ancestry. So his father must have been called Jacob and must have been a turner.

Daniel, that is interesting. Hans Jakob Berli was born in 1710. His only record on FS is his birth. However his wife Anna Schnebeli has a death record for 1785. Just wondering if it mentions anything about Jocob being a turner? or?

STOP !
Heinrich Berli's father was a Caspar (see the Familienregister on your blog page) - his grandfather a Rudolph. On his grandfather's page it is stated that the line was named after him "Rudels".
As far as the "tuner" is involved: I am not sure that this was a common profession at the time. According to the Idiotikon a Drajer (Dreher) was also a clumsy person (although from the position in the line a profession would be more likely).

Daniel57704 The document I posted above is from 1710. It is about Heinrich's Berli's grandfather's wife Anna Schnebeli b 1712 and her husband, namely Jacob Berli born 1710 according to FS. (pedigree below)
Thode says Dreher = (lathe) turner. I assume he is the person who turns the lathe while someone else does the carving. (sounds like hard work)
Does the document above regarding Anna Schnebeli's death note anything about her husband Jacob Berli born 1710 and the word "Dreher?"
I must be missing something. It wouldn't be the first time. Could Caspar be the "Dreher?" What is your thinking? Kent

Anna Schnebeli‘s death record reads:
23 [Februar] Anna Schnebeli, Jacob Berlis sel. von Otenbach ehlich nachgelassene Witwe, at: 72 Jahr 14 Wuchen
February 23, (1785), Anna Schnebeli, widow of the late Jacob Berli from Ottenbach, aged 72 years 14 weeks
So it doesn‘t say anything about his profession. If the two words in question in Heinrich's death entry really mean 'Dreher Kobis', then this could also be a nickname. This does not necessarily have to refer to the father of the person in question, but can go back much further and serve to distinguish the lineage if there were many people with the same name. But that is just speculation. The fact is, however, that woodturning is a very old craft according to (German) Wikipedia

"It is about Heinrich's Berli's grandfather's wife Anna Schnebeli b 1712 and her husband, namely Jacob Berli born 1710 according to FS. (pedigree below)."
This pedigree is in contradiction to the Familienregister:

And here is the baptismal entry for Caspar Berli 21.07.1748:
So https://www.familysearch.org/de/tree/person/details/L4HV-T3J is another Caspar Berli, just born the same year (bapt. June 3).

WSeelentag Ok, now I see what you are saying. This Caspar birth entry is in complete contradiction to what is on FS. The Caspar Berli on FS has a birth date of 3 June 1748, not 21 July 1748 which is what the Familienregister says. This must be where the confusion comes in. Kent

I assume someone had a child - got the parents' marriage entry - and then picked the "wrong" husband.
I have now trasncribed 3 generations Berli to Geneal-Forum. Note that Heinrich's son Melchior was called "Kabis".

We were just driving home from playing pickleball and I thought to myself. I'll bet [name removed] summarizes all three Berli generations. and low, here it is! Wonderful! 😃 So thankful for all you do! Kent

I have expanded the info on Rudolf Berli oo 1736 Barbara Frei (that was his second marriage).
