Will the CET be able to merge data from Family Search?
I used my son's biological family from Roots Magic because there is less information to upload. It took a long time and many people were left out. On Roots magic, their Family Search PID is attached, but when I uploaded it, all new PID's were attached. I am assuming this is because this will be more personal. However, when I tried to add a person that is on Family Search and not the the CET, it would not let me add it because it says it is from a different tree and can not be added.
Will this change, if not everything has to be added by hand. This would be find if a person was just starting their family tree, but not if it is very long.
Also as a note. My Family Search tree always defaults to my son's group. I can not bring up my own line anymore, without going through a deceased member of my line. I hope this is not permanent.

@SharonBurke1 first and foremost, let me thank you for agreeing to test the early release of CET. Eventually, the engineers plan to have a tree2tree option that will allow copying data from FamilySearch tree to CET. That enhancement is still in the works. Also, you are correct that the CET must have unique PID's from the FS Tree and even from a FamilyGroup Tree. A new person on CET must be added by name and not by ID. Also the upload from a RootsMagic gedcom is not fully functioning at this time. Do you have another 3rd party tree you can upload from?
Lastly, you mention that your FamilySearch Tree defaults to your "son's group". Is this a FamilyGroup Tree belonging to your son or is he the starting person on your FamilySearch Tree?

@SharonBurke1,
The reason that you are landing in your son's CET pedigree by default is likely because that tree is set as your preferred tree. Here's how you change that:
- Go to the tree, not the Tree Details, but the actual tree showing the persons in the tree.
- Click on the tree selector tool in the top left of your screen. It probably shows the name of the CET for your son's family. Select the tree you wish to be the default.
- Click on the small black "jelly bean" button called "Tree Details" just under the tree selector and set that tree to be the Preferred Tree.

You asked if you will be able to "merge data from FamilySearch". I suspect you meant Family Tree since CETs are also on FamilySearch.
By design each tree in the FamilySearch system is separate from all others. That means that a person PID cannot exist in two separate trees at the same time and that there is no merging of similar PIDs across trees.
The new tree system, temporarily codenamed CET, is being built so that users can choose to use either tree system (Family Tree or CETs) and won't need to use both, unless for some reason they wish to. Eventually all key research and church member related functions will be available in the CETs directly. The movement of data between trees will be facilitated by a tool that will be released in coming months.
Tree2Tree person matching and a new Compare & Copy tool. Each tree at FamilySearch will be matched against most others. Users will be alerted when an individual in their tree has a high confidence match vs an individual in another tree. Users will be able to align that individual, with the surrounding family members, and, while assessing all available genealogical evidence, determine if "These people are those people?". If so, they will be able to create a new "empty" person in their tree and copy all of the person data, notes, source and memories from the matched tree person onto the new person in their tree. This will also put a note on each of the persons in the two trees indicating that a user has determined them to be the same person.
