Sharing some example of Preserving Family History
(more than just names and dates)

Just links and examples that might spawn some food for thought as to how someone who has a large collection of family material (often in paper or photo format) can organize, digitize and process this info and upload to FS.

Are you spying on me @Dennis J Yancey ? I’m looking for hidden cameras and microphones now 🤣 I swear I was just getting ready to ask community “who wants to help with my gen disaster” 🤣.... but my disorganized stuff is mostly web links, random PDFs that I didn’t name, photos, books and the like that I downloaded at some point for some reason ... I get overwhelmed just thinking about it... and it doesn’t help that I’m probably THE MOST DISORGANIZED person ON THE PLANET‼️
Oh and added bonus for anyone crazy enough to offer to help... I have almost zero patience for this kind of stuff 🤣 I’m a total scatterbrain at times.... and I have wicked bad adhd so... attention span??? What’s that?!? 🤣

My most important suggestion is the old proverb "you can eat an entire elephant - if you do it one bite at a time"
Way too many people look at this type of project as as one whole all or nothing project. And then they think about all the needed prepatory organization that it will take to even get prepared to accomplish the project. You really have to throw this type of thinking out the window. All to often treasures get thrown out to the garbage when the people who gathered them die and pass away - because no one knows what to do with it - and because people were always waiting for it to "get organized" before they could start on the project. and we all know how life goes on and things dont get accomplished.
My suggestion is simply to pick ONE Thing that you can digitize this week. and dont worry about if it is part of something bigger - and dont worry if it is perfectly organized or ordered or printed out pretty. Just SCAN it. store it, upload it, comment on it, share it. And then keep repeating the cycle. Next week do two or three related items. and soon you will see you are on your way.
You will find that organizing, sorting, labeling, grouping, etc. is much easier - once you first have it digitized.
And even if you never get to all that "post-processing" work - at least you have it digitized - and available to others who can continue on with the work - even if you cant.

that last message got a little "mangled" when I first posted it.
Look in the community to see the corrected version.

Awesome ideas! Kids and youth like to contribute. Counsel together with them in helping to solve some of the organizational issues; make it a family project (or smaller family projects) and give everyone a job. Put some music on or have special treats to go along with the project, maybe some recipes from your family's homelands and celebrate the project completion.
