Hello everybody, I can't resolve this combination of Italian + Roman numerals:

"L'anno millenovecentaquaranta XVIII"

1940, but What does "XVIII" mean?

I know it is 18. Is it telling me something else about the year?

Should I read it together with "E.F." ? What E.F. means?

The inclusion of "XVIII E.F." reflects the use of the Fascist calendar, common during Mussolini's regime in Italy (1922–1943). The "E.F." stands for "Era Fascista" (Fascist Era), which began in 1922.
