This marriage record for Asmus Nehlsen, Blacksmith in Gongelsby, and Catharina Kraacken includes a lengthy narrative that I am having trouble transcribing. It seems to have something do to with receiving a royal dispensation. Please help.

Asmus Nehlsen Schmidt in Gongelsby cum Catharina Kraacken, seiner vorigen frauen Schwester Tochter, v[on] welche beyderseits bey Lebezeithen ihres Ehe Gatten(?) die Ehe mit einander gebrochen, folgl. so wohl wegen des einen als des anderen passus eine Köngl. Dispensation einholen mußten.

Asmus Nehlsen Schmidt in Gongelsby with Catharina Kraacken, daughter of his former wife's sister, both of whom committed adultery with each other during the lifetime of her(?) spouse and consequently had to obtain a royal dispensation on account of the one and the other matter(?).

Interesting. The record refers to his wife's niece, not the niece of his wife's sister, but it ends up being the same thing. I would assume that the previous spouse(s) had died; divorce was very unusual in those days. The dispensation probably related to the fact that they were related by marriage and had committed adultery.
