Hi Everyone,

I am looking for some help. I know it is a needle in a haystack.

I am looking to find information on my father-in-law's mother's side of the family. His mother was Alexandra.

What we know

Name: Alexandra [Last name unknown]

Born: Oct 1922 (at least this is what her documents say)

From: Village of Khutor in Orlovsky District, Oryol Oblast

Arrived in Georiga between 1925-1927

Father's name might have been Ivan.

Her other sister was sent to Ukraine

The family ended up in the Ural Mountains after

Religion: Russian Orthodox

Story:

Alexandra was sent to Russia with a bucket of Gold from Russia and was taken in by a family in Georgia and raised as their own. The other sister was sent to Ukraine (the sisters were spilt to increase the chances of survival). At some point when the family was in the Urals they sent someone to come and checkin on Alexandra to make sure she was ok. This was the last contact. Based on the fact that she arrived with gold coins and from what the family that took her in said, is that she must have came from a well-off famility either landowners or nobility. As the soviets were running Russia, both classes were targetted.

We have done some DNA tests, but the closest family are all about 4th to 6th cousins x times removed, with no family trees to see.

I am hoping that some people from this group might be able to help me with this needle in a hay stack. How would you suggest I go about this?

I have already done some basic google searches. There are no documents online from Oryol Oblast, but I can request and pay them to do research, which I am open to doing. But there is no last name to start with so I am not sure how well their research will go. I was thinking maybe they could give me all the alexandra's born between 1920-1925 or something and then I could see if I can find a lastname that connects with one of the DNA matches or if one of them have a father named Ivan (but i feel like there are a lot of those as they are common names).

Any other ideas that would be more concrete, or produce better results?

I appreciate the feedback and support from the group,

Matthias

What an interesting history! There were lots of Khutor places. Here are a few of them:

Hi @LaRue Turner , indeed an interesting history but not much to search with! Khutor I am told means village in Russian so it might just be village/farming settlement written on the document? But it is in the Oryol Oblast.

We have no idea if that information was even correct or if they put fake information on the document to protect her from where she was running from. But its what we have so we are starting with it.

Alexandra married Galaktion Chigogidze from Chokhatauri, Guria, Georgia. But that was only when she was in Georgia and much old. He worked for the soviet ministry of business/commerce in Georgia.

As you can see, I'm not a researcher. Have you tried an online consultation?
