Hi Ruth and thank you for your note. I appreciate you willingness along with the group to help me locate any material on my Maternal Grand father, Anany Huna (Jacob) Fainstein/Feinstein, b. 1873 in Zhytomir, Ukraine. His w, my maternal grandmother was Anna Ratner, b. 1882 in Kyiv, Ukraine. My grand father was a MD who graduated from the Medical School in Kyiv. His first appointment after he earned his degree was to Tbilisi, Georgia. His next appointment was the Behkterev Institiute in St. Petersburg, Russia about 1900 or so. He was there at the same time Pavlov was doing his studies with dogs. Part of his work was also attending to minor courtesans of the Tzar's court for STD's. I believe he lived at 67 or 69 Nevesky Prospect in St. Petersburg. He supposedly had a Dacha near Sochi, where the family went during the summers. My mother, Mary (Marusha) was born in St. Petersburg along with her youngest sister Jenny (Jenya). The eldest daughter was Helen, who was born in Zalenagorsk, Russia, which was land excised from Finland by the Russians. My grandfather had at least 3 bothers. Benjamin Fainstein(Feinstein) was also an MD, a younger brother Volodya, who was a professor of Political Agronomy until he was swept by by the Stalinist in about 1930 and sent to a Gulag in 1930. He spent 14 years there and survived. He was then to another Gulag in the Urals for another 6 years until his wife, Fanya Braver, was able to gain a pardon from Krushchev in about 1950. The couple lived in a one room apart at Krukov Kanal 11 комната #41. Fanya's younger sister, Anuta also resided with them. The couple had a married daughter and grandchild and husband. All three disappeared as they fled to the south during the bombing of St. Petersburg during WW II. They were never heard from again. They may have been casualties at Babi Yar. I have a foto of my grandfather's medical degree. I will have to figure out hope to copy and paste it in a message to you. Hopefully, I can figure out how to drag a copy of the document here at a later date. A lot of my family fotos are posted on MyHeritage under my Ratner- Fainstein/Feinstein Album.
If possible I would love to obtain any documentation on my maternal grandparents, their sib and family menbers. My uncle Volodya, his wife and her daughter all passed away in St. Petersburg. The fourth brother changed his last name to Rosenhouse, Samuel and was a pharmacist in Venice, California.
I hope this basic information helps you out Ruth.
