trying to track Sven Peter Magnussen, born Sweden, married Norway

What I know:

Bygdebok for Sirdal, Vest-Agder (place of marriage/residence) describes him as ""svensk skredder Sven Petter Magnussen fra Modesjø socken i Kalmar stift." They lived at Søkkja with Oline's brother Torkel. (Sirdal : gard og ætt (948.29/S5 D2) 3:419; see also p. 626 (which I do NOT have a copy of - I have p. 627, and the little I see of the edge of p. 626 refers to Modesjø.)

Marriage record (1888, Sirdal) gives birth as 1830, father as Korporal M. Hannell. This is his 2nd marriage, in 1888. His first marriage was in Kristiansand 26 Feb 1857 with ___ Johanne Guttormsdtr, she died in Amerika. records lost in Chicago fire. (Note: He and Oline had a child together in 1884 in Sirdal, though they were not married until 1888.)

Norway census 1891 says he was born in Modesjö sogn, Sverige. 2nd wife has died; he is living with her family and their daughter at Tonstad Gnr 52, bnr 19.

Where should I go from here? The FHL library would be a good start, but they are 3 hrs away and closed.

Are you hoping to track him forward until his death or track him backwards to his birth?

If going forward, there are the 1900 and 1910 Norway censuses on Digitalarkivet. If he is not in either of those you may consider death or emigration as a possibility and look at the death and moving out records from the last parish you have him in.

If you are hoping to track him backwards in time, the parish you are looking for is Madesjö parish in Kalmar county. The two keys for finding him would be a farm name in Madesjö or an exact birth date. If you find him in the 1900 or 1910 censuses you could get an exact birth date from that record. Also, there are good moving out records from Madesjö from what I can tell, however they are not indexed. The moving out records could give you a farm name. After finding the farm name, you will want to look up that farm in the household records of Madesjö.
