Meaning of "Knecht"
I understand that Knecht means servant or farmhand. Would this status typically be attributed to a son living in his parent's household, who is an adult? Feel free to speculate. Thank you!

How old is the son? If he's an adult or at least of working age, I suspect "Knecht" could be applied to him.

What type of record do you have? Marriage, baptism, or something else?
I don't know what the age requirements were for a marriage witness or a baptismal witness/sponsor. You would need to ask this question to the entire community.

I'm unsure of his age, but he was old enough to be a witness to a baptism. Can you remind of the age requirement to be a witness?

It's a 1843 protestant baptism record. Thank you! I will post that question.

Then the attribution of "Knecht" would not be unusual as he could be a young single man still living with his parents.
