Gottlieben TG - baptism - 1852 - Hippenmeyer - Jakob (illegitimate)
On https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:FVFW-VF7 11 Jul 1852 is given as date of baptism in Gottlieben (Thurgau) for Jakob Hippenmeyer: this is a reading error - he was not baptised in Jun (with a dash over the u), nor July, but in Jän (for Jänner = January).
Is there a way to have this corrected?
Jakob was the illegitimate son of the smith Johann Jakob, himself son of a smith, and Maria Magdalena Meyer of Tägerwilen (Thurgau). There is no fitting baptismal entry in Gottlieben for the father: whilst there are many Johann Jakobs, none of them is a smith's son.
However, on 07.02.1859 a Johann Jakob Hippenmeyer, smith and locomotive driver from Gottlieben, marries Walburga Wirz in Solothurn. He already dies on 08.01.1865 in Neuenburg (Neuchâtel), aged 43 years and 20 days - indicating a birth 18/19.12.1821. There is no fitting baptismal entry in Gottlieben - so quite likely he will be Jakob's father, himself baptised somewhere else.
Jakob being an illegitimate child, the case was tried before the district court of Gottlieben in three sessions (confirming birth in Jan 1852). The court minutes and all other relevant sources can be viewed on Geneal-Forum (one has to be logged in to be able to open the attachments).

As to your question, "Is there a way to have this corrected?", the answer (as far as I know) is no for this indexed entry with an "image unavailable". A record must have an available image so you can compare the index to the actual record. When one tries to click the "Edit" button (between "Save" and "Share") on the indexed baptism page for Jakob Hippenmeyer, it won't allow you to update (a message pops up saying: "Edit Unavailable Sorry, this record cannot be edited"). In the past, I have edited an indexed entry with an available image on a record for one of my ancestors, and corrected a reading error (which was nice to be able to do).

Thank you Debra … you are descibing my problem 🤔. I managed to add comments and the source - so on https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/details/M94C-284 there is now a "warning" to read the comments.
It was possible to add the date of birth (not mentioned originally) - but the date of batptism is still wrong 😒.

It is fine for you to use the edit tool provided for the "Christening" field to delete the baptism month of "Jul" (leaving the day and year unchanged) and then add and save the month of "Januar", as long as you add a new source for the baptism that includes a copy of the record, which would provide proof of the month.

Hmmmm … I don't see an edit tool for the Christening field.
I guess I'll leave it at that: there is a warninng note that the christening date is wrong - anyone interested in this person will either view my source and believe me - or not 🤔.

The pencil to the right of the Christening field is the edit tool. The warning note that the christening date is wrong is very helpful.

Well - there is no pencil.
But then I find the display rather confusing anyway: https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/details/M94C-284, which is supposed to show details, doesn't show any details at all (in the right hand column) … I have to switch to TREE - and then to the person again to see details - but no pencil anywhere.

Thank you for the screenshot, Debra - sorted this out now: baptismal date is correct now with the TREE data - still wrong in the index data set - but I can live with that 🙂.
