Anyone here familiar with Gizzeria in Catanzaro?

I have been searching for information concerning the identity of my husband's Great Grandparents. Grandma was Michelangela Colella born 20 May 1876 in Gizzeria, Catanzaro, Calabria, Italy. She followed her husband (Francesco Saverio Provenzano B: 5 Mar 1877 in Gizzeria, Catanzaro, Calabria, Italy) to America in1902 and they made their way to southern Iowa by 1907.

Death certificate has parents listed as Michael Callella and Mary Jane Tory. A gentleman from Gizzeria sent me a hand written genealogy saying the parents were Vincenzo Colella and Concetta Tojo. ( I am thinking maybe Toia?)

DNA shows a distant link to some Colella's in Columbiana County Ohio but still no common ancestor. The name that pops up most frequently in my searching and some of his closest DNA matches come up with name Falvo.

I have written to the address in Gizzeria for Grandma's birth record or marriage record a couple times but have never recieved a response.

What else can I do from my home computer?

    Unfortunately, at this time no records for Gizzeria are available online after 1860. Communicating with the comune is your only option until the state archives of Catanzaro receive more records to scan and publish.

    Thank you for your response. Yes, unfortunately I learned this when I first started researching about 6 years ago. I keep hoping that eventually these become available. I have written to the commune a couple times but have not received a response. I have joined several Face Book groups for Southern Italy genealogy, and I have messaged many DNA matches but unfortunately most do not respond and the ones who do are as stumped as I am.

    I came across this forum in the FS Wiki so thought It never hurts to ask! :) I look forward to researching with all of you here!
