What might 'barblen' be?
First record top left, also in May 11th record at bottom of that page and second record on rightside page. Encountered a new word in this 1726 Alsace death record — what looks to be 'barblen', but cannot find in dictionaries. Any suggestions? Something like 'unexpectedly'? Thanks!

I believe this word refers to a disease or cause of death. Note that the wording is "an den Barblen entschlafen" = passed away from ___. My guess is that the disease is chickenpox which used to be called Barpel or Kinderpocken in German (now Windpocken). Barbel may be a spelling variation.
Note that all cases on these two pages are children; chickenpox is a typical childhood disease.
