Do You Know ""Der Pfälzer in Amerika"?
The German-language newspaper "Der Pfälzer in Amerika" was published from 1884 to 1917 in New York. Do you know if any copies or microfilms of this newspaper exist in U.S. archives or libraries?
If you know this newspaper, you are probably aware of this 4-volume index:
- In Amerika verstorbene Pfälzer. Herausgegeben von Christa Becker und Roland Paul. Verlag Llux Agentur & Verlag 2016
- Band 1: 1884–1897. ISBN 978-3-938031-65-0
- Band 2: 1898–1903. ISBN 978-3-938031-66-7
- Band 3: 1904–1909. ISBN 978-3-938031-67-4
- Band 4: 1910–1917. ISBN 978-3-938031-68-1
Can you help me locate volumes 2, 3, and/or 4?

Hi Gary, you can check at Worldcat.org for holdings of the Pfälzer volumes -
As for the newspaper itself, Chronicling America says it can be found in Kansas -

@sylviaelchinger1 Thank you. Unfortunately Worldcat does not specify where I can find Vols. 2, 3, and 4. I already know where to find Vol. 1.
Kansas has one copy of the newspaper (28 Jul 1888); I need a copy for 12 Mar 1892 to find an obituary. I know it's a long shot, but I thought I'd ask. :-)

If you plug in the title at Worldcat, it comes up with many separate entries. I just sent a link to the first one on the list. So maybe go back to Worldcat and look at the other entries to find vols. 2-4.
Here's a link to another Wikipedia article that says the newspaper is available at the Institut für pfälzische Geschichte und Volkskunde

Regarding the following title "In Amerika verstorbene Pfälzer : Sterbenotizen und Nachrufe aus der Zeitung "Der Pfälzer in Amerika" 1864-1917":
The volumes are being published sequentially as opposed to all at once. The Library of Congress has volumes 1 and 2 of this title: https://catalog.loc.gov/vwebv/search?searchArg=Amerika+verstorbene+Pf%C3%A4lzer+%3A+Sterbenotizen+und+Nachrufe+aus+der+Zeitung+%22Der+Pf%C3%A4lzer+in+Amerika%22+1864-1917&searchCode=GKEY%5E*&searchType=0&recCount=25&sk=en_US
Volume 3 is scheduled to be published on 1 July 2024 and Volume 4 is scheduled to be published on 1 Oct 2024: https://www.amazon.de/s?i=stripbooks&rh=p_27%3APf%C3%A4lzisch-Rheinische+Familienkunde+e.V.&s=relevancerank&language=en&text=Pf%C3%A4lzisch-Rheinische+Familienkunde+e.V.&ref=dp_byline_sr_book_3 See the first two entries in the list.
The FamilySearch Library holds volume 1 (1884-1897) of this title. Isn't this where you would expect to find an obituary dated 12 Mar 1892? Perhaps you could ask a local to visit the library and make a copy for you. Or does it have to come from the original newspaper itself?

As I mentioned in the other thread on the same subject, not all libraries participate in WorldCat. Sometimes, we have to search the individual catalog of a specific library.

Thank you all, especially @Robert Seal_1 for finding that Vols 3 and 4 have not yet been published! No wonder they are not yet in WorldCat or any other catalogue! I think Stanford University (near me) has Vol. 2 and I will wait patiently for Vol. 3 and 4. My interest is to look at the index of German hometowns to find obituaries of anyone from Offenbach am Glan who died in America. Volume 1 has only one such listing.
Markus Zimmer in Germany sent me a scan of pages 86 and 87 of Vol 1 (which he owns) showing that an obituary was published on 12 Mar 1892 for "Fräuline Hess [Heß], 76 Jahre alt, aus Offenbach a[m] Glan" who died in ''Philadelphia, Pa". The actual newspaper might include another clue or two that helps me confirm that despite the difference in age, this is most likely the "Catherine Hesse, white, 68 years, single" whose Philadelphia death certificate says she died 5 Mar 1892 and was buried in New Cathedral [Catholic] Cemetery. I know it's a long shot, but if it works, there are other German ancestors I'd like to look for in the 4 volumes (once they are all available).
Thanks again!
