Translation of Sponsors
The record in question is the second one where the parents are Johann Berndt Messing and Elisabet Timpe. I am trying to make out who the sponsors are. It may just be not clear enough for anyone, but I thought I would try
- maybe Christophorus Althoff??? There appears to be something between his given name and surname
- Anna Catharina Niehoft??? There appears to be something between her given name and surname
THANK YOU!

I read the part between given name and surname as "schulte". This is typical in Westphalia for the owners of large farms, a so-called Schultenhof
.The surname (here Althoff or Niehoff) is the Hofname which in this case just means "old farm" and "new farm". The Schulte just signals that this is (or was originally) a Schultenhof.
With this I would read the names of the witnesses as:
- Christophorus Schulte Althoff and
- Anna Catharina Schulte Niehoff

Ulrich, thank you so much for that explanation! I knew about hofname/ farm name, but had never encountered the term "Schultenhof". I assume Christophorus Schulte and Anna Catharina Schulte are not husband/wife since they are from different farms. So Anna Catharina could be married to a relative of Christophorus with the same surname. Does that sound correct? THANKS AGAIN…. I don't know how you managed to read that :)
