Biological Parents
I'm trying to find out how to search for my father's biological father. I've gotten many conflicting information. His birth certificate has one name on it and I'm being told that his biological father is someone not on his birth certificate. My father was adopted in 1953, and has sadly passed away in 2001. I'm really want to know more about my dad's side of the family, biological and adopted sides. I never met any of his family. Thank you in advance for all your help

I'm sure others more knowledgeable and experienced will respond, but I would start from the beginning. You said you are being told that your biological grandfather is not the father identified on your father's birth certificate. How credible is that source(s), also, what is the source of their information? What else might they know? Can they refer you to anyone else? Is your grandmother on the certificate your father's biological mother?
Suggest two efforts. First, I would research based on the documentation you have, to see if you can prove/disprove what is reflected on his birth certificate. Look at dates, locations, etc., and look in context of those in your father's life - relatives, in-laws, etc. See if you can find any living relatives from his adoptive family, with whom you could talk. Research your grandmother, for the same.
Second, DNA may be useful. RootsTech has some online classes that can help you understand different types of DNA testing, what they can do and their limitations.
Depending on your state, adoption records may be open or closed (sealed). Some states issue a new birth certificate for the adoptive parents, which might be what you have. This somewhat dated link may be helpful:
Take advantage of the free research consultation offered by FS, also check with nearby FS Centers, to see if there is someone with experience in adoptive research. Good luck! Michael Vermillion
