I am working on Sally Smith KZT6-3HH, who has a suggestion for a record belonging to Sarah Moulton.
I am sure there are a lot of Joseph Harrises in the tree. I am thinking that there is a Joseph Harris married to a Sarah Moulton who had Cyrus Leonard Harris, as I can't find any solid connection between Cyris and Sally. His paperwork has his mother as Sarah Moulton. I can't find a Sarah Moulton married to a Joseph Harris. I would like to try to untangle this if I can and am wondering if anyone has any knowledge. I have searched Ancestry and Family Search and have done some general internet research and can't find anything to prove the connections. Any ideas or help? Thanks!!!

The source for Cyrus that lists his mother as Sarah Moulton is a death record. Keep in mind that death records were not filled out the individual that died but someone else that knew that person. As a result, death records are prone to errors at times, particular the information about the parents. My assumption here is that his mother is listed correctly in the tree as it is, and the death record is in error, particularly since you are not finding a marriage record for Joseph Harris to Sarah Moulton.

The other siblings of Cyrus also have Sarah Smith listed on their records. Since most of the records list Sarah Smith, it looks to me that her name was really Sarah Smith and Sarah Moulton was an error.

So could you suggest the best course of action for the suggested record? Do I attache Sarah Moulton to Sally Smith? Do I attach Joseph Harris and Cyrus Harris but leave Sarah Moulton unattached? I know this probably seems like a small thing, but it could be confusing later on. Thanks for replying!

I would attach the record but add an explanation that you believe that the last name of the mother is an error and that her maiden name was Smith because all of the other records for children in this family list her maiden name as Smith.
