Family Group Tree
Maybe I misunderstood the concept.
To my understanding, doing this would allow your family group to edit the tree. So I enabled this experiment on my account as well as my wife's account. I then copied my tree over to the family group tree. For me it looks right. However, when my wife launches it it ask to select someone as your start on the tree.
That's where the problem starts. It doesn't show her my entries. It's blank and no name she types will pull an entry. So she manually typed and hit enter and instead of pulling up the tree I copied over, it created an entirely new group tree for her that I can't view.

Did you issue an invitation to your wife to view your Group Tree? https://www.familysearch.org/en/help/helpcenter/family-group-tree-pilot/article/how-to-invite-others-to-the-family-group-and-be-part-of-the-family-group-tree

First check that you are indeed in the same Family Group Tree. If so, then all that happened was that she copied over individuals from her private Person List. Essentially, you have two totally unconnected trees inside the Family Group Tree. If you go to the Person List for the Family Group Tree, you should see several duplicated individuals. You will copy the IDs of those duplicates and Merge by ID. Then you should both see the same Family Group Tree with all of your combined information.
