There is a public member tree in Ancestry by Pam Thompson of Colorado Springs that is very well sourced. She gives his parents as John Leroy Thompson and Margaret Walton. her tree goes back to John Tomson born 1640 in Perth Scotland. You might want to read the sources posted and see if this helps. Family Search has a data base of New Jersey Births and Christenings, 1660-1980 , see if you can find the birth record. You might try googling the names and see if some family records exist or if books were written about this family. Under search in familysearch you can find a Wiki page that will give you a number of online sources as well as Guided research on the right side of the page that will help you decide were to search next.
