Where to start? Bielefeld
Hi,
I have family roots in Bielefeld, and I'll be traveling there in September for a few days, and I'm planning on searching for family gravesites and information.
Aside from findagrave, which so far hasn't been helpful….and hints or tips regarding where I can go in the city to look for family information?
Thx in advance

I would recommend looking at your family records and what church they were recorded in, they might have more records on your family at the church or a religious building relating to your family

You should also be aware that German cemeteries do not operate the same way they do in the US. Space is limited, so grave sites are "rented" for a period of time, usually between 5-15 years, depending on the location. If the lease is not renewed, the gravesite is "recycled." So unless you are looking for someone who has died in the last 30 years, or someone who is famous, you're unlikely to find the graves of your ancestors.
You should also look at the CompGen website for cemeteries in Bielefeld -
