Wölfersheim & Melbach
In the municipality of the Wetteraukreis district of Darmstadt in Hesse members of my family have shown up in church records before immigrating to the States.
Maternal names include: Jahn, Laun, Roth.
Family was Lutheran with the name Fourier.
Finding immigration records has not been easy since Ellis & Castle Garden didn't exist yet at the time and people have said that records were destroyed to make room for new ones.
The topic doesn't get talked about how people got in before immigration laws existed and no one wrote down what port they came into or left from.
There is family still there, found in the 80s, but war destroys records. How do you find people and listings from before and after the Napoleonic & World wars?

The family names Fourier, Jahn, and possibly Roth from Wölfersheim and Mehlbach are mentioned in the database "Hessian emigrants" (Hessische Auswanderer), leaving in the 1840s and 1850s. Would that be of some use to you?
The link should take you to the search page.
Kind regards
