Locating birth and marriage records
Hello,
I'm currently doing some research for a friend, researching the Wojcieich Balon family who lived in Buffalo around the turn of the 20th century. I believe they arrived in New York from Stawy Malowice, Poland in April 1892. The family at that point consisted of father, Wojciech, mother Anna, and children Jacob and Mary. Records indicate the mother, Anna, died in 13 Oct 1898 and the father remarried shortly thereafter, marrying Anna Nagi/Nagy (date/place unknown).
The 1905 Census of New York shows the family with the addition of Wojciech's brother Aloysius.
Mary (Maryanna) married Jan Pawelczyk in 1907 (see below). The record says her mother's maiden name was Grubka.
I'm trying to locate birth/marriage records for Wojciech and his first wife, Anna Grubka. I believe this was a Catholic family. Wojciech died in 1912 and is buried in St. Stanislaus cemetery in Buffalo. His second wife lived until 1946. I appreciate any guidance/suggestions for research.
Thanks!
Bill

Bill, please consider in your research for your friend checking Geneteka.genealodzy.pl and indexing company. select "malopolskie". You may also check MyHeritage for free, without subscription, in a familysearch center in your neighborhood. You will find those famiies in both of them. You may use Google Translate for Polish texts. I attach the scans of some entries in Geneteka.genealodzy.pl

Eppich,
Thanks very much for the information! I'm always learning something new with genealogy. I've done some work in Italian genealogy and now Polish genealogy for others-- learning some new things that will be helpful in the future. I'll bookmark Geneteka for future reference. I'll also check into MyHeritage and use Google Translate more.
Thanks again! Great advice!

Question -- can you obtain a copy of a birth or marriage certificate via Geneteka?
Question -- I tried to located Aloysius Balon using Geneteka but had no luck yet. The 1905 Census for New York shows him living as being born around 1880 in Austria. Any suggestions for how to locate him?
thanks,
Bill

Another problem == I used Geneteka to try to find Piotr Nagi (b. May 1879 in Poland, d. 8 Feb 1846 in Cheektowaga, NY (near Buffalo). On a Social Security application (see attached), it lists his parents as Wazyniec Nagi and Marya Czarnik. I've tried inputing Peter's name, his sister Anna's name (Anna Balon nee Nagi) and his parents' names into Geneteka and haven't found any connections yet. I have a feeling it's operator error and not a database issue.
Any guidance would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Bill

Bill,
- You may at times access birth or marriage scan of original record in Geneteka.genealodzy. pl
- I could not locate Aloysius Balon either in MyHeritage, Geneteka, or Ancestry.com
- I agree with you that Piotr Nagi was not indexed in Geneteka
- If you use herby.com.pl/indexslo.html and search for Nagi you will find that there were a number of them living in Slaskie, Malopolskie - Bilsko-Biala in about 1998, but it does not look like his location was indexed so far in Geneteka.

Hello,
I'm trying to locate a Anna Nagi/Nagy who was born in Bizczinka (sp?), Galicia on July 25 1872. Her parents could be Wazyniec Nagi and Marya Czarnik. I've tried the Geneteka website without success. Any suggestions for research are welcome!
thanks,
Bill

Bill, this is a tough question, as there is no mention in Geneszukacz.genealodzy.pl or MyHeritage, of Anna Nagi/Nagy born in Bizczinka (?) on July 25th 1872, daughter of Wawrzyniec (Laurentius) Nagi and Maria Czarnik. You may need to wait till more records from Galicia are indexed.

Hi,
I searched around a bit and found an immigration record which I suppose to be Anna Nagi's. Maybe the hometown that is listed there ("Grzezinka" - maybe "Brzezinka") might help you further with your search for her family. https://www.ancestry.com/discoveryui-content/view/4007109965:7488?tid=&pid=&queryId=5e55c9a6-54b6-4a59-823e-29764c49d9d9&_phsrc=bBD962&_phstart=successSource
Kind regards
