Birth and Death Record: Maria Hemmer, Oberwald, Ligist, Austria
Thank you for translating the birth (3rd record down on the first page) and death record below of Maria Hemmer. I am attaching both as there is a 5-year discrepancy in her age at death, which is suspicious. I know families often used the name of the child who passed away. In this family's case, the name Maria was used three times.
The death record says she was 3 when she died, but using her birth record date she would have been 7. So first I want to make sure I have the birth and death dates correct and get a few other things translated before moving on to see if there is a 4th Maria born to the couple.
Born: December 28, 1819 (if I am correct), I can read everything else.
Thank you for translating the 5th death record down for Maria Hemmer.
Died: May 9, 1827 (if correct) and it looks like she was 3 years old, unless this is really an 8, but I don't think so, in looking at another 8 on the same page.
House # and Parents: same although there is something written under her name that I can't read.
Cause of death: ?

Birth record: The birth date is December 28, 1819 (correct)
Death record:
The death date is May 9, 1827 (correct); the age looks indeed like 3 years. The text in the name column is: Hemmerin Maria ? des Hemmerchrist eines Bauern in Oberwald eheliche Tochter. The cause of death is given as Keuchhusten = whooping cough.
Comment:
The discrepancy in age is either a mistake by the scribe, or there are two different Marias in the birth and death records. The Maria born 1819 may have died earlier (soon after birth) and a second girl born after her death may have been baptized Maria again. This was not uncommon in the past.

Thank you for the translation and your assessment. I am searching through the birth and death records page by page to see if I can get all the facts. Much appreciated, Tammi
