Circus / Performers
Hello all. I am wondering if someone could lead me in the right direction please??
My husband's ancestors were performers and we are lead to believe they performed under the name of "Pichlon" and travelled around Holland performing their act. How would I go about trying to find out more info regarding this? We also believe that either the Pichler family or the Buchner family had an actual circus - we would love to know more about this as well but I don't even know where to start! If someone has any ideas, that would be great.
Thanks, Christine

Hi,
There is a Dutch website developed by the Dutch National Library, where you can search for old newspaper articles.
If you go to https://www.delpher.nl and you choose on the left side "kranten" (which seems to mean "newspapers") and then write the words "Pichler" and "circus" into the search box, you will get a number of seemingly interesting articles.
For example, there is an obituary of a Francis Pichler, who passed away 1931, at 75 years of age. Or an article from 1949 about the 10 year old Henry Pichler, son of the acrobat Jolly Pichler.
But ofcourse I don't know the timeframe you are searching for.
There were no good matches for the search word "Pichlon".
Kind regards and good luck for your search!

Try googling "Pichler circus Holland" and you'll get number of links that may be of interest. One is a wiki article about the Francis Pichler who is in the 1931 obit mentioned above.

Hi,
Unfortunately I don't speak any Dutch at all. But there is a "Belgium, Luxembourg, and The Netherlands" research group in the family search community. I'm sure they could help you.
Kind regards
