Young death in the 1950s
Hello. I am from the UK so struggling a bit with getting to grips with the Canadian records! My Grandparents lived in Montreal through the 1950s and 1960s. They had 5 children whilst there, however, one died after approximately three weeks and one was stillborn. Both of my Grandparents are now dead and there is no record of these two children. I know it is unlikely that the stillbirth will have been recorded but I hope that the girl who died at a matter of weeks old was. I have searched various sites but cannot find her. Has anyone got any clues as to whether these things would have been recorded or where I should be searching to find them. I believe she will have been born sometime between 1954 and 1959. Thank you in advance for any pointers

genealogiequebec.com (subscription site) has a way to search death records between 1926-1997. If you can tell me the name (and approx year if you have any idea) I can take a look for you. genealogiequebec.com is a subscription site that has information from Drouin Institute.

Thank you so much for such a speedy reply. I believe her name was Paula Smart and she would have been born probably 1955-1958 but possibly a few years either side of that

I searched deaths between 1945 and 1963, looking for children who died young. Here's who I found:
Joseph Smart, b 16 jun 1955, died 17 jun 1955, Montreal
Robert Howard Smart, b 21 apr 1948, d 28 aug 1948, Rosemont
Doreen Smart, b 28 may 1949, d 6 sep 1949, Hampstead.
Thelma Smart, b 29 may 1947, d 17 may 1961, Ste. Dorothee, Laval.
I could not access the original documents for these to get names of parents. (it ought to be possible but haven't found it just yet)
