Joseph Verbosky, possibly member of Franz Joseph's personal guard

I am trying to locate records pertaining to my great grandfather, Joseph Verbosky, born 10 Nov 1875, likely in Kezmarok, Presov, Slovakia. Multiple US census records indicate he was from Austria, Hungary, and Kesmark, but I have no official record of birth to validate exactly where. Oral family history has it he was a member of Franz Joseph's personal guard, with tales of personal belongs gifted to him from Franz Joseph, but again no factual records. Any help to guide me towards relevant online records or sources would be greatly appreciated.
