@JudyStreet has asked the following question:

I'm looking for my 3rd Great Grandfather Luke Scott he was in County Mayo as his son Robert was born there in 1804 . Ballina and area is where I think they came from. I've been looking for this for 23 years for this SCOTT family , they also include Carroll, Baird, Vaughn. Do you know of anyone that is researching these surnames in the Ballina area.

@Hayter David @anthonyphilipclarke1 can you help?

Hi @JudyStreet Early Mayo records can be difficult. I've spent nearly as many years chasing my Mayo ancestors.

I had some success after I found a consanguinity dispensation in a marriage record in a later generation. The marriage record showed that my GG Aunt had married a cousin. I was able to trace the family of her husband back to a specific place in Mayo. Her husband's family had migrated to England, and the exact parish was listed in a couple of census records. We just never know where the information we need can be found.

    Best of luck!

@JudyStreet here is a link to some County Mayo sites that may benefit you in your research. https://community.familysearch.org/en/discussion/119678/county-mayo/p1?new=1

This link is in our research resource links at the top of this page. I don't have ancestors in County Mayo, my husband's are from County Tipperary. I hope this helps you. 😊
