Rostorp - Rölanda Mantal Record 1755 request Translation of note.
Hi, I have located a relative in Rostrop in 1755 by the name of Anders Andersson. There is a note to the right I need translated. I believe it is hired help, but he is gone after 1756 for the next several years and we are trying to find him. I also have attached the record from 1757. There is a note in 1756 I will send in another new discussion.Thanks.

I read:
Son Anders, Dr[äng] Bengt. __?: Drag[on] P[iga] Cattarina
I am not familiar enough with Mantalslängder to explain what it means, but it seems to be a listing of people.

Thanks, that is consistent with these records. The notes usually tell about workers or family involved with them. These records are a gold mine for finding important information, as household records are not avsilable at this time.

These Mantalslängder records record males between the ages of 15 and 65, who are on the property and who are eligable to be taxed. These are not necessarily land owners, but can be renters or people working for the land owners who have been giving a torp to live in. The notes can tell where a person has moved to or come from. They can tell about hired workers including maids and hired hands. They can record requirements for how much the farmer has to produce or be taxed. They can record deaths and family members. For ibstance, this relative you are helping me on, his sons birth record is missing. We thought maybe he went somewhere else, but rhese mantal records prooved he never left. So I searched and sure enough in 1750, I found a note that says his son is with him. So now we know this son was born in Rostorp, and before 1760, even though there is no birth record found. Very valuable.
