Hi there, I am brand new and seeking help. I hope that this is the right place to ask. I know the following about my grandfather. Family Lore is that he was adopted. I wonder how I can go about confirming this and perhaps finding out about his birth parents? Thank you in advance for any assistance you can lend.

Clarence Nicholas Leyendecker

Birth 16 Jul 1897 • 104 Harman St, Brooklyn, NY

Death 8 Apr 1948 • Hartsdale, Westchester County, NY

Charles J Leyendecker, 1873–?

Catherine (Katie) Kaemmerer, 1873–1925

Spouses:

Sadie (Sarah) Wemmlinger, Married 11 Sep 1920

Dorothy Boenau, Married 18 Aug 1933

    I recommend that you do a DNA test, and suggest AncestryDNA because of the size of their database. Your DNA matches may give you an idea who your grandfather's biological ancestors were.

    I found a Clarence Leyendecker GMZ6-BWS on Familysearch with the same birth and death dates. He had two wives Sarah Wemmlinger GMZ6-YKB and Dorothy Boenan LB2Y-C65. His father was Chas Leyendecker and mother Cath Kaemmerer.

    @MARIANNEFISHER1

    There are two records for Clarence Leyendecker on Family Tree, GMZ6-BWS and LB2Y-ZSZ. The second has a lot of sources attached and provides many more events for his life, including military service, census records, residence, and immigration. You should take a look at these Family Tree records and merge them as appropriate. The resulting (= merged) record may give you some insights into where to go next. This could guide you toward the original records cited as sources to see if whoever posted them might have missed something.

    I would also try and trace the origin of the family lore regarding his adoption to see if there is a pssibility of narrowing it down to a time and/or place.

    Let us know what you find out.
