Is there a date set for films still not digitalized? The icons with the film reel particularly.

    Digitization is on-going. I haven't heard what the current projected completion date is.

    One clarification is in order. If a film has a DGS number next to the film number, it has been digitized. In that situation, a film roll icon means that for some reason FamilySearch does not have the rights to publish the digital images online. Rights issues are varied and increasingly complicated. Sometimes another organization, such as Ancestry or Archion, has exclusive rights to show the images online, at least for some time, like a set number of years.

    Some records, especially from Polish archives and some German Catholic dioceses, are freely available on other websites. Most Evangelical records from today's Germany will eventually be accessible on Archion for a fee.

    If you have questions regarding specific records, feel free to ask them here. We may be able to point you to another website for access.

    Good question and good answer. Thank you to both of you!

    @BaerbelJ

    Hello,

    I realize that this post is two years old, but you might be able to help me in locating some Polish records. I'm interested in some records in the FamilySearch catalog that still show a microfilm icon, so I am not able to view them even at a Family History Center. You mentioned that some records may be freely available on a Polish archive website. Maybe you could point me in the right direction for these?

    FHL film #1897937 / DGS #4645566 Kościół rzymsko-katolicki. Parafja Grudna Górna (burials 1784-1843)

    FHL film #2091080 / DGS#4666176 Kościół rzymsko-katolicki. Parafja Lipnica Murowana (Lipnica Dolna baptisms 1847-1920)

    Thank you for any help!

    In the meantime, all these films have been digitized. However, in some cases, FamilySearch has not been permitted to make records available without restrictions. Sometimes this is due to contracts an archive has entered into with another organization or company, such as Ancestry or Archion. Apparently, the Tarnow Diocesan Archive has decided to make only the index available online at this time and withhold access to the actual images. The index can be accessed on FamilySearch, Ancestry, and MyHeritage. See https://www.familysearch.org/search/collection/1985025 . The description states that "the images are not currently available".

    Sadly, all we can do is wait patiently for the situation to change [which does happen].

    Hang in there and keep checking from time to time.
