Hello,
I am reseaching my Ulster family. My 3x ggf, James Ballentine, immigrated and settled in Chester County the mid 1840's I believe. 4x ggf, Hamilton Ballentine, immigrated (same place) in 1860 and died a year later.
James Ballentine: born 1800 or 1803, m. Nancy Fulton: born 1808 or 1810. I do not have confirmed information beyond what I have been able to find on Ancestry.
Hamilton Ballentine: born 1759 possibly in Landahussy, near Plumbridge. I believe he married Margaret. Surname I do not know. Only record I can find on him places him in Deer Park abt. 1837.
I would love to know more and be able to work my way back to Scotland.

Early records in Ireland are Church records. That means we need to know the religion/denomination in order to search for records or know if records have survived. What do you know about the religion of the family?

The records I have found regarding religion pertain to a St. James Episcopal Church (for James Ballentine) in Downingtown, Pennsylvannia. Please let me know if you need more than this. Thank you!

Also the Tithe Applotment records on PRONI are OK but don't give you much other than the name of the head & the place. But better to have than have not. Also the hearth money rolls again available at PRONI online.
Church records are available at PRONI except that you have to attend in person to view. They don't extend into the 1700s as they were lost during the fighting 1916-1922. If you look at "Church Records " + PRONI you will find a downloadable PDF that lists every parish in N Ireland and the location of its records. Also - would the family have worshipped in Omagh itself? Worth looking at the records of Omagh Churches.

The new one, virtualtreasury.ie - the digital recreation of the Public Record Office in 1922. No-one is quite sure exactly whats in it but there is new documents being added all the time.
Theres a few things out there but the first one looks fairly good.
