Hi,

in the publication "Ausführliche Nachricht von dem Leben und Charakter des Samuel Pomarius", the name Johann Iglo alias Jaschweitz is used. Does anyone know what "Jaschweitz" means?

Thank you

Jan

I believe it is just a name, but I am checking with some of my German friends in Germany

Given its absence from the German name dictionaries, I suspect Jaschweitz is a Germanized spelling of a Polish (or possibly other Slavic) name, but I may be completely wrong.

Igló was a town in Szepes county, Hungary; it's now Spišská Nová Ves in Slovakia. The Hungarian placename-etymology tome only has guesses for the origin: either a Germanic given name, or a Slavic word meaning "needle".
