Trouble finding relatives of my grandmother
Hi!
My grandmother's name was Margaret Geraldine Quinn. She was married to Elmer Baird Deal and lived in Camden, New Jersey until her untimely death at age 25 in 1945. My mom was told that her mom, Margaret, was adopted or in the foster care system and had no family. Does anyone have any tips on how I could do some further research?
Thank you.

@Sherry Gerber Do you know if Margaret Quinn is her birth name or adopted name?
It's probably not a coincidence that in 1930, Elmer Deal's family are neighbors to Ernest and Margaret Quinn:
More clues:
In the many newspaper articles of Margaret's death in 1945, one article stated that she knew James Sherwood as a teenager growing up in East Camden:
There is a Margaret G Quinn living at 215 Peyton Ave. in Camden in 1940:
1940 Census says she is a maid, age 20. From NJ marriage index, she married Elmer in 1940. No day and month given.
If I were you, I would track all of the people in her life. Use censuses and city directories (found on Ancestry--access them at a FS Center if you don't have subscription). Use Catalog on FamilySearch to find records of Camden county as well as the city of Camden. There might be something in court dockets, but guardianship and adoption records only go to 1907 in the FamilySearch collection:
If you have other information to share, perhaps we can help put the pieces together.
Wish you luck!

If you, or other descendants of your grandmother, were to take a DNA test, you likely would get DNA matches to members of her family. Since they lived in the United States, I would recommend testing with Ancestry.com.
