@Eric Dalton I apologize if there was any miscommunication. Claudia and yourself are valued consultants, and your preference to not watch the live stream does not change that. Furthermore, this is just a resource that some consultants and patrons may use if they wish to. Please feel no pressure at all to attend or begin using social media, as neither is required to continue being a great consultant

Also, if you are using Instagram, you just need to go to the FamilySearch profile page, and tap their profile picture to view the Instagram Live Stream from today. I think they are typically only available for 1 hour after they post, but it looks like FamilySearch set this stream as their story, so you shouldn't have any problems viewing it. The story is available for 24 hours.

Too bad that such is only on, (1) “Instagram”; and, (2) “FaceBook” …
.
Two (x2) of the “Social Media” Web Site “Mediums”, I that I will, NOT, use; or, touch with a ‘barge pole'.
.
WHY cannot you post it via NORMAL means like OTHER Presentations.
.
WHY do you have you use the DANGEROUS, unsecure; and, unsafe, “Mediums”?
.
That is a real shame.

@Brett . Brett, we are sorry to hear that you aren't satisfied with where the live streams will be taking place. Unfortunately, those of us who help moderate this forum are not in charge of these streams and have no say in where they take place. If they become available on other platforms in the future, I'll be sure to let you know!

thank you Brett! I love the FB platform

@Foster Lee Truman

It is NOT a matter of not being 'satisfied', it a matter, of common knowledge, that the “Social Media” Web Site “Mediums” of the likes of “Instagram”; and, “FaceBook”, are DANGEROUS, unsecure; and, unsafe ...
.
“FaceBook” MONITORS us; and, KNOWS about us; and, USES all that we do; even, to the extent of 'On-Selling' to "Third Parties" ...
.
That was World 'News', that, believe it or not, even reached us 'colonials' (aka:'hillbillies') from "Down Under" ...
.
I am very well aware that those who Moderate this Forum (and, the 'Groups' within) are NOT responsible for such "Presentation" ...
.
But ...
That said ...
.
I am also very aware that those who Moderate this Forum (and, the 'Group' within) are in a position to pass on such CONCERNS to the "Powers To Be" ...
.
That IS all that is required, on your part ...
.
Nothing more, nothing less ...
.
'Thank You' in advance.

Could there be a community group called 'online events' that everyone could post info such as this, and free webinars being offered by various groups in one location? There is so much being offered right now due COVID-19 and self-isolation. Would be awesome to note all the offerings in one place.

this is a useful facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/groups/familysearchwebinaraddicts/

That's a good idea, I'll pass it on.

Actually, there already is a group titled "Events Near and Far."

Oh, thank you, I’ll check it out!!

Joined. Thanks. I’ve noticed with some of the groups there are various event posts within many of them. Looks like I’ll need to keep a close eye on all of them as I pass info onto our T&FH Leaders/Consultants. Thanks again for sharing!

I am lost and frustrated by all this facebook, instagram, etc.,, etc. stuff. Our leaders have often advised us to spend less time with social media and more doing more with and for family and gospel study and teaching. The church has for many years been able to train and teach us without social media and all it's attached garbage. Lest this site lose its focus and go off into social media wilderness, lets get back to what I thought this group was for - little snippets of helpful information for new FH consultants and announcements of new FamilySearch capabilities.

Yes, we have noticed that too, and Community leaders are working to better coordinate those types of posts. Thank you for your patience! Let me know if you need anything here in the Community that will help you in your family history and genealogy efforts, whatever they may be!

I understand your concerns. We must also remember however that while The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints may be behind a lot of the efforts of FamilySearch, it (FamilySearch) still a public online software being used by more than just members of this faith.
I also understand your concerns regarding how this online network functions. The FamilySearch Community will continue to grow and provide for the needs of its Community members as much as is technologically possible. It will continue to be a tool used to connect families--past, present, and future while helping these families experience joy that comes from participating in this great work.
I'm not trying to be preachy, but I also know that whenever I don't understand the reasoning behind something, I have to remind myself to look at the issue from other perspectives besides my own. I hope you continue to have wonderful experiences here in this online Community and continue to share your knowledge and experience with others so that we can all continue to benefit.

Sadly, I tried to watch yesterday's Instagram event, but even with a fast internet connection and sitting immediately next to our fast WiFi router, it kept freezing. Even the replay wouldn't keep going for me, and I finally gave up. Don't know what was wrong, because it seems that others had a good experience with it. I even tried logging into Instagram on my desktop that's hard wired to the modem, with excellent bandwidth. No difference. Any suggestions anyone?

Sorry the Instagram event wasn't working for you. I'll poke around a bit on Instagram to see why it might not have been working and let you know what I might find. I assume your mobile app is up to date, right?

Actually, I don't know whether my Instagram app is up to date or not. I'm used to computer applications updating or notifying of available updates, but now that you ask the question, I don't recall ever getting notification that Instagram was ever updated or had an available update. I keep extremely few apps on my phone for security reasons, and reluctantly use IG only to get more updates (and fun photos!) on kids, grand kids, and great grand kids. But I had the same problem logging directly into Instagram on my desktop, with excellent cable internet speed (hard wired, not WiFi), and a fast processor with nothing else running in the background. So I'm at a loss to explain it. Don't go to a lot of trouble, but if you happen to find out anything, I'd appreciate it. There are SO many other webcasts and other offerings available that I'm having just a bit of trouble understanding the clamor from some that seem truly upset that they either can't or won't use Facebook (which I also won't use) or Instagram for family history events. With so much else out there (such as the BYU Family History Library webinars as just one example), I don't know that any of us could ever exhaust the list of what's already out there on the web anyway, so I'm not going to stress about what I can't get when there's already so much available.
