Hello everyone . I am just starting to research my 7th G Grandmother Elizabeth Mcskelly b 1740 . On my records she is with her Family in Wigtownshire Scotland , but someone suggested that Mcskelly is an Irish surname? So "Can anyone tell me what part of Northern Ireland this name is from?". I would love to trace her Irish roots. Thank you.

Hello Anthony and thanks for the advice here . Someone has said that this surname is from County Antrim . Elizabeth's Family emigrated to Wigtown Scotland around 1745 , which is just a crossing away from North East Ireland. Unfortunately the records do not go back to the 1700s , so i have a task researching the Family . If you can think of any other ideas please contact me . Best wishes . Wendy.

If its county down try the county pages as theres a great site listed in there - Ros Davies I think it is. County Antrim borders County Down .so that might explain the "which county " bit. The date will prove troublesome.

@wendyparry1 you will find the county pages at the top of the Ireland Research Home page. David Hayter gave great advise to check them out. A lot of good information there.
