New Zealand Place Names
I am becoming confused by the mixed language place names coming into New Zealand Family History sites.
My grandmother died in Mt Eden, Auckland, Auckland, New Zealand.
I now find that according to Family Search she died in Maungawhau - Mount Eden, Tāmaki-Makaurau - Auckland, Auckland, New Zealand.
To me this translates to Mt Eden-Mt Eden, Auckland Isthmus-Auckland, Auckland , New Zealand. Surely this is complicating an already difficult area for New Zealand FH.
Please can I have some sort of explanation re these types of changes which are occurring in my FH.

Are you saying that the original or previous entry for the location of your grandmother's death was Mt Eden, Auckland, Auckland, New Zealand and someone has changed it to read Maungawhau - Mount Eden, Tāmaki-Makaurau - Auckland, Auckland, New Zealand? If so, you could contact the person in FamilySearch that made the changes and ask their reason(s) for the changes and see if you agree with their response. If you don't agree you could then make the changes to the locations you feel are most accurate provide your reasoning just so it's clear that both entries refer to the same person. You could always reference the location provided in the death certificate and provide a copy. These are a few suggestions that come to mind. I hope it is helpful.

Hi Randy Philpot
Thank you for your answer. Yes the places that are in my FH are the places named in the time period that they happened, not this time period now. I will make this notation on the places I change and notify the person who has made the changes.

Sounds like a good plan. Things can definitely change over time.
