Trying to find my Great Grandfather - John Clarence Hunter
John Clarence Hunter was born in Levuka, Fiji around 1870. He came to Australia at some stage, lived in NSW and then moved to Queensland marrying my Great Grandmother Wilhelmine Kachel at Killarney, Queensland. His father John Hunter, was on the ships and his mothers name was Annie
We understand a lot records were lost from Levuka. We are having trouble getting any early information on John Clarence and no information about John Hunter (We appreciate it is a very common name.) This is John Clarence Hunter. He died in Mullumbimby, New South Wales on 24 January 1942
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

In the FamilySearch Research Wiki under Fiji Genealogy Fiji Genealogy • FamilySearch there seems to be a number of resources listed. Upon looking into it further not much seems to be actually available online but on microfilm and available at the FamilySearch Library in Salt Lake City Visit the FamilySearch Library • FamilySearch. If you’re not able to visit the FamilySearch Library in person you may consider calling and telling them which records you are most interested in and see if they can help make them available. Census records or death records from Fiji may provide the information you’re looking for on John Hunter the father and his wife Annie.
If you believe that John Hunter immigrated to Fiji from other Pacific Islands you can research immigration/emigration records as well as a number of other records listed under the various links provided in the following Pacific Islands Research Links.
I hope these suggestions will help get you started. Please feel free to post your progress or any additional questions that you might have.
