Announcement! Success in updating FSC days and hours!
After a number of trials using the recommended methods over the last 3 months, I have finally succeeded in having the service hours of our FSC changed on the FSC Locator on FamilySearch. This is how I did it.
I sent an email from my personal email account at Comcast.net to DL-FSC-Info@familysearch.org on the evening of 3 Apr 2023. This email included this text:
----------------------------------------------------
Please make these changes to the information for FSC 3312623 to appear in the FSC Locator:
In the section called Hours: Leave this section unchanged, except for Wednesday. For Wednesday, change “7:00-9:00pm” to “7:00pm-9:00pm”. Without this change, a patron might think that we are open 14 hours, rather than the 2 hours we are really open. This section will then read:
- Tuesday 9:00-12:00pm; Wednesday 7:00pm-9:00pm; Saturday 10:00-1:00pm
If you are not able to fit the “pm” into the Hours: section, abbreviate one or all of the names of the days to make it fit.
In the section called Notes: Remove the 129 characters of holiday names presently there, and replace that with these 109 characters of specific dates of closure:
- Closures: Jan 2, Apr 1, Apr 8, May 27 - Jun 3, Jul 1 - Jul 8, Sep 3 – 6, Sep 30, Nov 18 – 25, Dec 16 - Jan 3
Please email me when completed or if you have any concerns.
Thank you,
Dean Lindsay, STFHC-FSC, San Jose California FSC

By 5 Apr 2023 around 1:00 pm, the requested changes were visible in the FSC Locator on FamilySearch.org!
This was done by a thinking human, because the Locator times for Tuesday and Saturday both had “am” added to the open times, whereas I had only specified to add “pm” to the Wednesday open time (which was the minimum requirement to make the times unambiguous).
Also, the Closures section was a cut-and-paste of my line as I specified – including using 2 types of hyphens as I did by accident, and was too tired to change when I noticed it.
I still can’t find our FSC on CDOL, but I don’t care about that right now, since E. Richins said the FSC information is moving, and my urgency was getting our hours and days fixed for 2023.

I apparently declared victory too soon. When I tried to demo the updated information to my wife, it came up with the old information. Then I tried again and got the updated data.
I finally did some rigorous testing. The summary is that out of 12 trials, the Locator displayed the updated information 7 times and the old information 5 times.
Maybe there are 2 servers and only one was updated?

I’ve been very busy, and didn’t notice that I had received an email as I had requested from the person who did the update for our FSC hours and days. He did the update and emailed me just 12 hours after I sent the email request to DL-FSC-Info@familysearch.org. He said:
- “We have updated the information, as requested. Please allow up to a few days for the information to show up on the Center Locator.”
After reading this email today, I retested the FSC Locator for our center and received the updated entry 12 times out of 12 times.
I really believe that our FSC’s hours and days have been fixed in the Center Locator.
YMMV.

The mixed testing results are two issues one would be cookies and history stored on the browser and the computer, refresh does not always clear the cookies and history. The second possible issue would be the standard practice of internet servers downstream from the actual server having outdated versions of the main server. Server farms such as those used in the church can take over 24 hours to fully populate the information and the same is true of the caching servers that ISPs use to enhance the speed of information retrieval.
