One column layout doesn't work

I have tried to change my column layout to one column by using Tools/layout, and clicking on one column layout, then X ing out, as there doesn't seem to be any other way to change the columns layout. But my layout continues to be two columns, and I can't read the full names in a window that takes up less than half of the available space.

Please help, as I need three windows to copy from PRDH and Drouin into Family Search person

    The Vitals and Events sections switch from double column to single column immediately for me. The Family Members section does not change, since it uses a Double Column to show the family unit.
