Question: WHY can't you "Merge"/"Combine" the "Duplicates" individuals/persons?
.
Rather than "Delete" a "Duplicate" individual/person, you can "Merge"/"Combine" the "Duplicate" individual/person with the individual/person that you want to "Survive".
.
"Deleting" an individual/person from "Family Tree" of "FamilySearch" is ONLY a 'last resort'; and, generally only done when an individual/person is "Created", who did not, in fact, ever really exist (ie. Created in Error).
.
And, if you really need to "Delete" an individual/person from "Family Tree" of "FamilySearch"; then, you can ONLY "Delete" an individual/person; IF, and ONLY if, you (1) "Created" the record for the individual/person; and, (2) NO Other User/Patron (including, "FamilySearch") has contributed ANY details to that individual/person (if they have; then, you will s

Avoid deleting when possible. Merge the two entries.

It depends on the situation:
1) You created the person and no other user had done anything to the person. In the right hand column under Tools the link next to the garbage can icon will say "Delete Person." Just click there:
2) You created the person. Another user has made an edit to the person or done a merge on a parent, spouse, or child of the person. Under Tools it will now say "Delete Person Not Available." All you can do is merge the person. You cannot delete:
3) You did not create the person but just added a duplicate of a person to the correct family. You cannot delete someone you did not create. All you can do is merge duplicates
4) You did not create the person but added an incorrect person of the same name to an incorrect family. You cannot delete someone you did not create. You must not merge away a person with a different person to get them out of a family. Click on the pencil and paper icon next to the individual's information under Family Members to remove the incorrect person from the family:
