Uruguay: Looking for Family members located in Uruguay - William and Ellen Cooper
Hello - I am looking for guidance on finding a brother of my GG grandfather who lived in Uruguay. My GG grandfather was Richard Neill from Salford in Manchester UK. I have written letters from my GG grandfather who was seeking the recovery of inheritance left to him by his late brother 'Mr Cooper' who died probably in 1901. From Passenger lists information I believe I have located a William and Ellen Cooper who where 61 and 58 years of age in 1894 travelling to the UK with their daughter Flora Cooper, 13 years old. Williams profession is 'Inspector'. Flora Cooper appears on the UK 1901 census in Manchester with Birth location as Uruguay. There is a large grave stone in the British Cemetery in Montevideo to Ellen Courtnay Cooper (Plot A189) who was married to William Cooper. Ellen Coopers death is 11 Feb 1895 on the grave inscription.
I emailed the British cemetery requesting more information on that grave a number of times, but have not received a response.
I believe Courtnay might have been Ellens maiden name and I think she may have been Irish and transported to Uruguay. I have found evidence of a William Cooper on the 1855 Argentina census on a ship, but not further evidence to tell me that is the William Cooper I am looking for.
I would like to find evidence of a Marriage, or Baptism of Flora and eventually determine how William Cooper is connected to Richard Neill and why he moved to Montevideo. Having obtained the UK birth certificate for Richard Neill, his mother was called Jane Neild (alternate spelling), formerly Cooper.
Any Help on finding more information on the grave or how to find Marriage or Baptism records gratefully received.
Richard Watkins.
