    Hello-

I'm wondering if anyone can read and translate the entry in the marriage record of my ggg-grandparents? It's from 1874 under the column about any impediments in the marriage banns. Thank you!

    Warmest wishes,

Announced twice, have dispensation for 3rd announcement. The girl received a dismissal from the parson of Felső-Novaj.

Thank you, Julia! I'm embarrassed but I'm struggling to learn the geography. What is Felso-Novaj? And where is it located on a map? Is Garadnan(sp?) close and how is it related?

      Thank you!

I should have asked this before, but can someone tell me what town/city/location the groom is from? The entry is #155 on November 8th. It starts with a B but I'm not familiar enough with the region to decipher. And under what county would I look for his family in the 1857/1869 Census?

Bárczán: "in Bárcza", Garadnán: "in Garadna". Both these and Felső-Novaj ("Upper Novaj") were in Abaúj-Torna county, same as Kassa (where the marriage was registered).

      155. Novemb. 8.

      Officiant: István Géczy, chaplain.

Groom: János Szedlak, b. in Bárcza, RC, city hajdú [sort of a cross between a soldier and a cop], widower, born 1844.

Bride: Erzsébet Kristof, b. in Garadna, RC, single, age 19 years.

Obstacles and announcements: Announced twice, have dispensation for 3rd announcement. The girl received a dismissal from the parson of Felső-Novaj.

      Witnesses: András Jesztreb, András Berdás

      Residences: Kassa

Julia, thank you!! This is wonderful and I truly appreciate it. It puts Erzsebet in the same location as the family I believe she is connected to!
