1600 Pemaquid, Colony of Maine earliest settlement and births
Have recently discovered ancestors said to be born in Pemaquid in 1606, however the official website for the Village of Pemaquid states "a year-round English settlement was established in the 1620's".
- Could there be births registered prior to 1620?
- What is the proper location designation for Pemaquid as a part of English Colonial settlements? Colony of Maine, British Colonial America?
Thanks for your help, in advance.

According to what I have found there was English, French, and Spanish in the area before it was settled in 1620. So it is possible that some type of records were kept. I am sending a link to a book I found online. Just copy and paste it into your browser

As for the correct location designation. being unsettled. I would think it would be something like "Pemaquid Territory". But that is a guess. You could look at some pre-1620 maps to see what that area is called. You should find some in your locale library.
Please post what you find and let me know if this helps. Thanks for posting looking for more from you.
I hope this helps some . I will keep a lookout for it.
