Although most military records are held in the National Archives, it can be fruitful to extend your military record search to the archives of the state in which your ancestor lived, as well as in neighboring states. Many state archives hold records related to the men and women from the state, and the Eastern states hold records from colonial conflicts. The following link is to a list of links to state archives for all 50 states, 5 territories, and the District of Columbia.
