    Irish family in Cardiff

I am having trouble trying to obtain information about my great-great-grandfather Daniel O'Brien (unfortunately his name seems to change on different documents). What I know is that he was born sometime around 1825 in Ireland (no idea which part). I have no idea when he settled in Cardiff but all four of his children appear to have been born in Cardiff. His wife, also born in Ireland, was called Johanna. He appears on the 1861 and 1871 census and his address seems to be on Stanley Street. Johanna does not appear on the 1871 census and I think I have found a death record for her. I think I found a death record for Daniel. Sadly it appears to have been in a workhouse in 1887. I am very cross with myself for starting my family tree after all my older relatives have passed away.

@HelenHare2 It looks like you have found quite a bit of information about your O'Brien family. We have O'Brien's from County Tipperary in Ireland and yes, that last name spelling changes quite a bit.

Is there something we can help you with? Don't be too cross with yourself as life happens. Please let us know how we an assist you.

      Kind Regards,

      Shannon

If I found the correct family in the 1871 census it appears that Daniel remarried to a lady named Margaret between 1861 and 1871. If that is the case, the marriage certificate should name Daniel's father which will help in the search for Daniel's birth information in Ireland.
