Help with sourcing information

Hi,

I'm from Japan and haven't known a clue about my family history, I was only able to find out about my (mother's side) family names but other than that it's an empty road.

Does anyone know a good way of tracking records such as marriage records?

My family name is Murakami （村上）, though it has changed after my mother remarried
