Discussion Topic FamilySearch Center Appointments
Sis. Carol Pountain, one of our Center Chatter leaders, strongly encouraged FamilySearch Centers to adopt "appointments" as a means of increasing traffic at our Centers. Many of our Centers are not familiar with this technique.
Please share your experiences: policies, procedures, technical support, and so forth.
Thanks.

Well, yes. When people know they are expected to show up at a certain time, they try their best to keep that commitment. But many times they don't.
So better yet, we have signed up new fairly inexperienced staff in the past who just needed to practice learning more. So they have their shift assigned for at least 2 hours per week, and other more experienced staff have benefited by being able to help them. That has been our beneficial experience of keeping our center populated enough to stay open. They kept coming consistently enough for a couple years until they felt they had progressed enough, or progressed as much as they felt they could.
But the pandemic has slowed some of that down, but the productive & healthy ones have kept coming since we re-opened May 2021. (Though on about half the hours we used to run.)

Also we have had many ward groups among our 10 stakes reserve a whole evening to bring in a YM or YW group for their activity, or to prepare for a Trek or Temple baptisms activity. But that takes weeks of preparation to ensure that evening isn't wasted for the vast majority of the group.
